TF 2 Classes Summarised

By Dirik Hameed

9 different classes all with different abilities, its own skin and individual skills and abilities along with health and movement defences. From its large community, like with CSS game servers, Team Fortress 2 has a huge array of custom maps and mods. It is two years since Team Fortress 2 game servers first came out, and it is as popular as it has ever been.

Team Fortress 2 servers have 9 classes that are split into 3 sub classes based on support, defensive and offensive. Though you don't have to play these exact roles, they are set to give the best balance.

On Team Fortress 2 servers without an effective defence, you will lose. It is vital that you have people at your back line to stop that sneaky scout from getting through.

Without a proper gun you have to be skilled at this class to know how to play indirectly unless you like using the bottle to melee with. Using the games engine and physics to his advantage, he can take out enemies very effectively. A weapon that can take out small health pools such as the scout, medic and spy is the grenade launcher- normally with just two hits! You can also use the grenade launcher to effectively take out sentry guns from behind corners. Laying sticky grenades as traps near intelligence or control points is a very good tactic. Sticky grenades can be laid to take out a high number of kills. If you like your bangs and can't aim then this is the class for you!

The Heavy is our next class. This guy really packs a punch. Although he's the heaviest and slowest of the classes, his health and most powerful gun makes up. In fact, he'll take out the other classes with ease. The only enemy he struggles against is his opposite number. With his large range, he can take on lots of enemies at the same time. However his mini gun does take a while to rev up. Once he hits you, don't expect to move in a hurry! These guys work well when placed with someone else to help draw fire away from them so they can just concentrate with mowing people down. If you like to make people shut up on game servers then this is the guy for you!

The engineer would normally only fire when being attacked directly. He should choose to deploy and maintain helpful buildings to gain his team an advantage. They are best known for their sentry guns which are automated turrets which can be upgraded by whacking them with the wrench. To do this, the engineer has to collect metal from round the map. Dispensers placed round the map are also used to re-supply players. Teleports are an excellent way of moving players from one part of the map to another. A hidden spot near the enemy base is always a good position. When it comes to getting their hands dirty they are not down and out with their slightly generic weapons. However they can be effective at medium range with their turrets and tend to sit in cover. Want a turret to get your kills while you sit back and relax? Then the Engineer is the class for you.
